SUMMARY:Strengthening Collaboration to Combat Counterfeits: Gulf BPG & DHL Express UAE
DESCRIPTION:Gulf BPG organized a dedicated session with DHL Express UAE to strengthen cooperation in combating counterfeit goods and enhancing intellectual property (IP) enforcement within the logistics and shipping sector. \nDuring the session\, Gary Hewett\, Customer Operations Manager at DHL Express UAE\, provided valuable insights into its global customs compliance and risk-management framework\, highlighting how data analytics\, artificial intelligence\, and machine-learning tools are used to identify and intercept high-risk shipments. DHL’s compliance approach centers on four key risk areas: undervaluation of goods\, IP infringement\, accurate identification of the shipper and consignee\, and clear shipment descriptions. \nDHL shared real examples of counterfeit shipments intercepted within the UAE\, predominantly involving high-end fashion items such as apparel\, handbags\, footwear\, and accessories. These cases demonstrated how vague shipment descriptions are often used to conceal infringing goods\, reinforcing the importance of accurate data and proactive monitoring across the supply chain. \nA key focus of the discussion was the challenge of managing intercepted counterfeit shipments\, particularly those departing from the UAE. While DHL can identify and stop suspicious consignments\, further collaboration with brand owners and enforcement authorities is often required to determine appropriate next steps\, especially for smaller shipments. \nThe session emphasized the critical role of information sharing and training. DHL confirmed that brand registration is not required; instead\, practical product-identification and IP awareness training enable frontline teams to better recognize counterfeit goods. Gulf BPG highlighted its readiness to support DHL through sector-specific training covering luxury goods\, FMCG\, medical devices\, and automotive spare parts. \nLooking ahead\, both parties discussed establishing dedicated communication channels for rapid IP alerts\, coordinating more closely with customs authorities\, and exploring a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Gulf BPG and DHL to formalize cooperation on investigations\, training\, and intelligence sharing. Initial IP awareness training sessions are expected to commence in early 2026. \nThis collaboration reflects a shared commitment by Gulf BPG and DHL Express UAE to strengthening IP protection\, supporting enforcement efforts\, and safeguarding legitimate trade across the region. \n[vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” row_position_desktop=”default” row_position_tablet=”inherit” row_position_phone=”inherit” overflow=”visible” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”all” flex_gap_desktop=”10px” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_gallery css=”” type=”nectarslider_style” images=”10366\,10368\,10370\,10372\,10374″ image_loading=”default” ns_image_rendering=”default” ns_image_aspect_ratio=”default” bullet_navigation=”true” bullet_navigation_style=”see_through” onclick=”link_image”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
