He proceeded to discuss trademark definitions and their significance for businesses. Hannouf also touched upon various types of infringements and the global scale of illicit trade. The presentation continued with an exploration of the consequences of trademark infringement on economies\, consumers\, and society\, supported by examples of relevant cases. The session focused on introducing the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP)\, its enforcement procedure and challenges. \nMalek Hannouf\, Gulf BPG Chairman\, started the session by extending a warm welcome to Mr. Yasser Al Debassi\, the Executive Director of IP Respect at SAIP\, and all attendees from the private sector. \nDuring the session\, Mr. Al Debassi and his team provided an introduction to SAIP\, and insights on tasks\, strategic pillars\, copyright enforcement\, the IP Respect officer program and the Customs enforcement platform TAHAQAQ. \nFollowing the presentations\, a dynamic Q&A session unfolded\, allowing brand owners to share their challenges and propose strategies for maximizing the benefits of the system in enforcing intellectual property rights in Saudi Arabia. \nMalek Hannouf expressed gratitude to everyone and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Public and Private sectors. He acknowledged the transformative power of the Internet and e-commerce\, and on the other hand\, the threat posed by online infringement\, including piracy and cyberattacks. \nHE Al Muaini stressed on the need for global collaboration\, emphasizing the UAE’s commitment to creating a platform for knowledge sharing. He urged active participation of all stakeholders emphasizing the potential for collective efforts to ensure a safer digital future. \nThis event brought together experts and leaders from online platforms\, as well as legal and regulatory entities\, to discuss crucial topics surrounding intellectual property online enforcement and protection. Offering valuable insights and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders in the field. \nThe first panel\, titled “The Voice of Online Platforms” was moderated by Malek Hannouf\, Chairman of Gulf BPG\, brought together prominent insights on the platforms procedures and figures on their efforts. These platforms included Pauline Monier\, Director of Global IP Enforcement at Alibaba Group\, and Hadi Al Kanani\, responsible for Brand Protection Strategic Partnerships at Amazon and a Board Member at Gulf BPG. \nThe second panel\, focused on “Legal and Regulatory Perspectives\,” was moderated by Hoda Barakat\, President of AIPPI UAE and Board Member of EIPA. DESCRIPTION:On June 7th\, 2023\, an informative online webinar on Press\, Media\, Journalism & IP was conducted via Teams. The event was collaboratively organized by the Ministry of Economy – Department of Trademarks and Copyright – UAE\, Gulf BPG – Brand Owners Protection Group\, AIPPI-UAE – International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property in the UAE\, Economic Service – French Embassy in UAE\, French National Institute for Industrial Property (INPI) – France\, EIPA – Emirates Intellectual Property Association\, and INTA – International Trademark Association. \nThe session began with Mrs. Jinane Kabbara – IP Counsellor at INPI\, Embassy of France\, giving the opening remarks and welcoming everyone and Mrs. Maria Farrukh Irfan Khan\, AIPPI-UAE Board member and Senior Partner at UTMPS\, who moderated the session. \nThe webinar covered a range of topics related to Press\, Media\, Journalism & IP\, each presented by well-known experts in their respective fields. \nThe first session was presented by Mrs. Marie-Avril Roux Steinkühler\, an IP/IT Lawyer from MARS – IP\, wherein she focused on Copyright and journalism\, exploring the rights of press publishers and copyright issues related to artificial intelligence. \nThe following topic touched on FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 TM- IP in Social Media\, with Mr. Aarij Wasti\, Director of Legal & Compliance at FIFA World Cup. He shed light on the FIFA World Cup Commercial Program and Brand Protection Program along with providing online enforcement statistics and case examples. \nThe final subject examined Copyright in the context of TV\, digital media\, and social media\, led by Mrs. Sara Maroun\, Senior Legal Counsel at MBC Group & Counsel at AL Arabiya News Network. This session highlighted piracy challenges posed by new media and AI\, MBC’s experience with FIFA as a major broadcaster in the region despite not being a licensee\, and the utilization of user-generated content and fair use for news organizations. \nThe webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session. The event was highly successful\, providing attendees with valuable insights and knowledge shared by esteemed experts in the field.
