They offered valuable insights into the activities of the Amazon CCU and shared collaborative strategies with brands for handling joint cases across the UK\, Europe\, the Middle East\, and Africa. \nThe event concluded with an interactive Q&A session\, allowing participants to directly engage with the CCU representatives. DESCRIPTION:Under the patronage of the Ministry of Economy in the UAE\, Gulf BPG organized a seminar on Combatting Online Infringement\, in cooperation with\, Economic Service – French Embassy in the UAE; French National Institute for Industrial Property (INPI)\, AIPPI-UAE and Emirates Intellectual Property Association. \nMalek Hannouf\, Gulf BPG chairman\, welcomed all stakeholders and opened the seminar with a speech stressing on the importance of collaboration between Law enforcement authorities\, online platforms and brand owners in order to succeed combatting online infringement in fast path tech world. \nAfterward\, he gave the floor to HE Dr. Abdel Rahman Almuaini\, Assistant Undersecretary for IP Section at the Ministry Of Economy UAE\, who highlighted the importance of addressing this critical challenge. He acknowledged the transformative power of the Internet and e-commerce\, and on the other hand\, the threat posed by online infringement\, including piracy and cyberattacks. \nHE Al Muaini stressed on the need for global collaboration\, emphasizing the UAE’s commitment to creating a platform for knowledge sharing. He urged active participation of all stakeholders emphasizing the potential for collective efforts to ensure a safer digital future. \nThis event brought together experts and leaders from online platforms\, as well as legal and regulatory entities\, to discuss crucial topics surrounding intellectual property online enforcement and protection. Offering valuable insights and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders in the field. \nThe first panel\, titled “The Voice of Online Platforms” was moderated by Malek Hannouf\, Chairman of Gulf BPG\, brought together prominent insights on the platforms procedures and figures on their efforts. These platforms included Pauline Monier\, Director of Global IP Enforcement at Alibaba Group\, and Hadi Al Kanani\, responsible for Brand Protection Strategic Partnerships at Amazon and a Board Member at Gulf BPG. \nThe second panel\, focused on “Legal and Regulatory Perspectives\,” was moderated by Hoda Barakat\, President of AIPPI UAE and Board Member of EIPA. The panel featured distinguished speakers such as Yamish Yakoob\, IP Attache for the GCC from UKIPO\, Dr. Jinane Kabbara\, an IP Counsellor-ME-INPI Expert\, and Bassel El Turk\, the Vice President of AIPPI-UAE. He shed light on the FIFA World Cup Commercial Program and Brand Protection Program along with providing online enforcement statistics and case examples. \nThe final subject examined Copyright in the context of TV\, digital media\, and social media\, led by Mrs. Sara Maroun\, Senior Legal Counsel at MBC Group & Counsel at AL Arabiya News Network. This session highlighted piracy challenges posed by new media and AI\, MBC’s experience with FIFA as a major broadcaster in the region despite not being a licensee\, and the utilization of user-generated content and fair use for news organizations. \nThe webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session. DESCRIPTION:The 12th Regional IP Crime Conference for the Middle East and North Africa took place on 21 -22 February 2023 in Dubai\, UAE. INTERPOL\, Dubai Police and Emirates IP Association (EIPA) co-hosted this conference in cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Interior\, Ministry of Economy\, Dubai Customs\, and the Brand Owners’ Protection Group (Gulf BPG). The conference theme was “Building Capabilities to Drive IP Leadership”. \nGulf BPG actively participated in the conference\, with Chairman Malek Hannouf and Vice Chairman Norma Akoury delivering an engaging session on the first day titled “State of The Art Snapshots From The Business World”. SUMMARY:Gulf BPG Joins UAE Delegation to Japan
DESCRIPTION:A delegation\, including the Chairman of Gulf BPG\, EIPA and members from various ministries\, local departments and institutions in the United Arab Emirates\, embarked on a visit to Japan. \nThis journey began by visiting Tokyo Customs to observe and learn about best practices in the field of intellectual property (IP) and combating counterfeit goods. \nSeveral visits took place on the second day; a meeting was held with the Executive Vice President of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Mr. Malek Hannouf\, Chairman of Brand Owners Protection Group\, delivered a presentation on the group’s responsibilities and role in combatting counterfeit goods. He shared valuable experiences gained through collaborations with law enforcement agencies in the UAE. \nMoreover\, the delegation visited the Japanese National Police Agency\, the Community Safety Office and the Illegal Products Department\, where they learned about their roles in fighting counterfeit goods and engaged in fruitful exchanges of experiences. \nOn the third day\, the delegation visited the Anti-Counterfeiting Goods Office and the International Cooperation Department in the Japanese Patent Office. A detailed presentation on the role and tasks of the Japanese Patent Office was provided\, with a particular emphasis on community education to combat counterfeiting.
