DESCRIPTION:Gulf BPG Chairman Malek Hannouf participated in a workshop organized by Dubai Customs in collaboration with Dubai Airports. The event included strategic partners such as the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai\, Dubai Police\, and Customs. \nThis workshop comes as one of the activities organized in line with the Ninth Dubai Customs Week which was launched on 22nd January 2024\, and was held under the slogan “Digital Empowerment towards Meaningful and Effective Partnerships”. \nDubai Customs stated in a statement issued that the slogan of the week emphasizes the importance of developing and enriching meaningful partnerships\, and the importance of establishing new alliances to achieve the goal of trade facilitation\, border security\, and the flexibility of global supply chains. \nMalek Hannouf delivered a presentation on the Gulf BPG Journey since 2005\, highlighting the collaboration with Dubai Customs as a strategic partner. He proceeded to discuss trademark definitions and their significance for businesses. Hannouf also touched upon various types of infringements and the global scale of illicit trade. The presentation continued with an exploration of the consequences of trademark infringement on economies\, consumers\, and society\, supported by examples of relevant cases. DESCRIPTION:Gulf BPG kicked off the year with the first session of the “Meet the Authority” series\, in collaboration with the IP Respect Council initiative. The session focused on introducing the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP)\, its enforcement procedure and challenges. \nMalek Hannouf\, Gulf BPG Chairman\, started the session by extending a warm welcome to Mr. Yasser Al Debassi\, the Executive Director of IP Respect at SAIP\, and all attendees from the private sector. \nDuring the session\, Mr. Al Debassi and his team provided an introduction to SAIP\, and insights on tasks\, strategic pillars\, copyright enforcement\, the IP Respect officer program and the Customs enforcement platform TAHAQAQ. \nFollowing the presentations\, a dynamic Q&A session unfolded\, allowing brand owners to share their challenges and propose strategies for maximizing the benefits of the system in enforcing intellectual property rights in Saudi Arabia. \nMalek Hannouf expressed gratitude to everyone and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Public and Private sectors. He acknowledged the transformative power of the Internet and e-commerce\, and on the other hand\, the threat posed by online infringement\, including piracy and cyberattacks. \nHE Al Muaini stressed on the need for global collaboration\, emphasizing the UAE’s commitment to creating a platform for knowledge sharing. He urged active participation of all stakeholders emphasizing the potential for collective efforts to ensure a safer digital future. \nThis event brought together experts and leaders from online platforms\, as well as legal and regulatory entities\, to discuss crucial topics surrounding intellectual property online enforcement and protection. Offering valuable insights and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders in the field. \nThe first panel\, titled “The Voice of Online Platforms” was moderated by Malek Hannouf\, Chairman of Gulf BPG\, brought together prominent insights on the platforms procedures and figures on their efforts. He shed light on the FIFA World Cup Commercial Program and Brand Protection Program along with providing online enforcement statistics and case examples. \nThe final subject examined Copyright in the context of TV\, digital media\, and social media\, led by Mrs. Sara Maroun\, Senior Legal Counsel at MBC Group & Counsel at AL Arabiya News Network. This session highlighted piracy challenges posed by new media and AI\, MBC’s experience with FIFA as a major broadcaster in the region despite not being a licensee\, and the utilization of user-generated content and fair use for news organizations. \nThe webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session. The event was highly successful\, providing attendees with valuable insights and knowledge shared by esteemed experts in the field. DESCRIPTION:Gulf BPG organized a special IP Day celebration this year at the Senses Canter for kids with determination\, the children were involved in hands-on experiences\, creating their own soaps\, candles\, bath bombs\, and perfumes with expert guidance from the Lab Licious team. They also enjoyed engaging in entertainment and sports activities tailored to their abilities and a delicious lunch was also part of the day. The success of this unique IP Day celebration was evident in the children’s smiles and sense of accomplishment. Let’s be inspired to support and protect creative efforts in every individual\, fostering a world where every idea is respected\, and every child is encouraged to dream big. \nWe extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Senses Canter and Mama Nadia Al Sayegh\, the founder of this incredible canter. DESCRIPTION:Gulf BPG hosted a Suhoor gathering on the evening of April 12\, 2023\, at the stunning Al Majlis Tent located at Jumeirah Emirates Towers overlooking the Museum of The Future. The event was attended by our esteemed members as well as several VIP guests from  EIPA\, the French embassy and JETRO who added to the charm of the evening. \nThe ambiance was lively\, and the mood was festive as guests mingled.
